Ganapati bappa moriya..
as we chant, we get enthrilled, don't we?
The name Ganesha is a Sanskrit compound, joining the words Gana (गण; gaṇa), meaning a group, multitude, or categorical system and isha (ईश; īśa), meaning lord or master...
Lord Ganesh, the elephant-headed is widely worshipped as the supreme god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.... He generates work, adds meaning to their life and gives them hope...
This time, it was celebrated away from home....we bought paper moulded ganesh idol n eastham...which was georgiously painted!! later we travelled to my friend rajesh place n Reading, where we kept the idol, few flowers, fruits(apple, orange,etc..) and performed puja..which was as simple as possible!! Later, the idols were worshipped with families and friends!
In the evening session, We visited hindu temple n Reading, where huge devotees were part of this festival..In front of the idol, they was a plate with vermilion and turmeric powder so that each passerby can put a pinch of the sacred powder on his forehead and feel blessed by Ganesha!
The idols of Ganesha are taken from various pandals, doorsteps, localities and puja rooms for a truly royal ride. Poojari performed aarti, afterwhich we started our innings....... Amidst shouts of 'Ganpati Bappa Moriya', where we got a last glimpse of our favourite God and seek his blessings, as he is the remover of all obstacles. The idols are carried into the water, typically in the local community centre, in our case it was river thames, the so called 'visarjan' or 'immersion'!!
As the festival passby, everyone shout "Bolo Ganapathi ke Jai!!"
